Our Lakewood Store Recently Had the Chance to Host a Very Special Event
Back in the 1970s, a couple named Rick and Linda had their first date at Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. The date went well, and Rick and Linda were married in October of 1976 on Sweetest Day. After they married, the couple moved to Pennsylvania, leaving behind Chicago but still holding onto the memory of that first date over deep dish.
Fast forward 50 years, Linda’s sister, Margaret, reached out to the team at Lakewood to see if they had space to renew Linda and Rick’s 50th anniversary wedding vows as a surprise for the couple. True to form, Lakewood found a way to make it happen. Managers Sarah Bursoni and Nick Behrens got to work with Margaret to figure out how they could make this special for Rick and Linda. They set their private room for the event, and it ended up being a perfect turnout.
The surprise vows renewal was attended by Linda’s sisters, Margaret and Angela, as well as their mother, Glorianna. The sisters made sure it was a very special day for Rick and Linda, including Margaret taking the time to put together a long document of vow renewals. Living in Pennsylvania, the simple act of returning to Chicago was enough of a big deal for the couple. Little did they know that they would be surprised with this event that honored their very first date more than a half century ago. On top of that, their son Brian, who is a commercial pilot, flew them to Chicago privately. Lou’s was their first stop once they landed, heading there straight from the airport.
Of course, our team had a hand in delivering the perfect surprise as well. Sarah had a heart-shaped pizza made for Rick and Linda, the perfect symbol of love. Nick was then the one who read them the vows, which of course they had not been expecting!
What an amazing story and all-around effort by everyone involved. Our Lakewood team did a tremendous job stepping in to create such a meaningful memory for Rick, Linda, and their loved ones. This is a strong example of how we can bring people together. More than 50 years apart, this couple shared two trips to Lou’s that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Congrats to Rick and Linda on 50 years!
