Introducing the Malnati Scholar Dollar recipients for the 2023-24 school year!
We are so proud of our continued Tradition of Generosity that allows us to grow our team members on both personal and professional levels. This program seeks to support our team members who display a strong work ethic in their stores, high academic achievement in the classroom, and are involved outside of work and school in their communities, by awarding them a college scholarship.
This year, we awarded a record 10 college scholarships to help these outstanding individuals pursue their goals. Get to know the winners here and what receiving the scholarship meant to them. Please join us in celebrating the following recipients of the 2023 Malnati Scholar Dollars program:
Taylor Radtke
“I am so honored and grateful to receive this award from Lou’s. This scholarship will help me immensely with the financial obligations for my academics. It has been amazing working for the company the past two years, I have made so many important connections and friends along the way. Working here has given me the opportunity to meet great people and also develop skills I will use in the future. Applying to work for this company has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
Taylor is attending the University of Central Florida and majoring in Forensic Science
James O’Toole
“I am extremely grateful to receive the Lou Malnati’s Scholarship! It is really meaningful to me that I have been recognized by the company for my hard work, and supported for my upcoming journey into college! I’m super excited for school in the fall, which has been made possible in part by this scholarship. In my time at Lou’s I have learned invaluable skills in customer service, leadership, cooking, and much more. The main reason I wanted to continue working at Lou’s was the support I got from my managers and the other staff at the store. I really appreciate the friendships I have built over the years, along with the countless great memories and experiences I will remember for years to come. I can’t say thank you enough for such an amazing recognition!”
James is attending the University of Wisconsin and majoring in Journalism with a Business minor.
Joy Hufford
“I want to thank Lou Malnati’s for their generosity in providing for students. I am beyond grateful to be chosen as a recipient of the Lou Malnati’s Scholar Dollar scholarship. Throughout my years working at Lou’s, I have had the opportunity to gain leadership skills, knowledge, communication skills, friendships, and unconditional support. Lou Malnati’s has equipped me will skills that will help enable me to be successful in the future. I cannot thank Lou Malnati’s enough for this opportunity to receive financial assistance while I pursue my education. This scholarship will greatly help fund my education so that I can accomplish my goal of becoming a nurse at Illinois State University.”
Joy is attending Illinois State University and majoring in Nursing.
Jelena Serdar
“This scholarship has had a significant influence on me by providing financial support and motivation to perform well in school. I believe I will be able to focus better on my schoolwork now that I won’t have to worry about finances. I am overjoyed to have received this scholarship because it finally seems like I am being recognized for the hard work I put in to get to where I currently stand.”
Jelena is attending Arizona State University and majoring in Biochemistry.
Julianna Henrichs
“I was so excited to learn that I had been selected as one of this year’s recipients of the Lou Malnati’s Scholar Dollar Scholarship. I can’t express enough my deep gratitude and appreciation to Lou Malnati’s and everyone who was involved in helping me achieve this. Working at Lou Malnati’s for the past 5 years has allowed me to grow personally and professionally in the workplace, as well as make long-lasting friendships. These additional funds will certainly help to relieve some of the financial burdens that I have endured as I pursue my educational goals. I am forever grateful for this opportunity!”

Joseph is attending Babson College and majoring in Marketing and Environmental Sustainability.
Mikayla Foertsch
“The scholarship and Lou’s has impacted me because they have opened doors in my life I never knew before were there to open. It allows me to fulfill my goals in line with the Malnati vision and be guided by my Liu Malnati mentors. I’m happy to receive this scholarship as it allows me to pursue my desires with less financial stress.”
Mikayla is attending Moraine Valley Community College and majoring in Elementary Education.
Alex Marquez
